The junction layout will change to give better priority to buses. However, traffic travelling south on St. Mobhi Road will still be able to access Griffith Avenue in a convenient manner. The redesigned arrangement is shown in the image below – instead of turning left on one side of the triangle, in the future traffic will be able to turn left on the other side of the triangle, which will be changed to accommodate two-way traffic movement.

The new design also improves safety for pedestrians and cyclists. It has been developed with safety and traffic efficiency as key priorities and is supported by traffic analysis carried out as part of the project’s Environmental Impact Assessment included with the application for approval made to An Coimisiún Pleanála and which was subject to extensive non-statutory and statutory public consultation.

Overall traffic levels are expected to reduce because of improved public transport and active travel options. Before the changes are introduced, there will be local public information produced which will clearly explain how the junction will operate.

Once the Scheme is fully complete, it will be monitored to ensure it is working properly and to address any issues which may arise. The Ballymun/Finglas to City Centre project will take around three years to deliver and represents a major investment in sustainable transport for north Dublin.
