Site investigation works for the detailed design phase for BusConnects Dublin continue for both the Liffey Valley to City Centre and Ballymun/Finglas to City Centre schemes ahead of the main construction phase.
The Liffey Valley to City Centre scheme was the first to begin, following the award of its construction contract to the Dublin based contractor GMC Group in 2025. The second scheme, Ballymun/Finglas to City Centre, was brought to tender and its contract awarded to contractor GRAHAM at the beginning of 2026.
As of April 2026, site investigation works are nearing completion on the Liffey Valley to City Centre scheme, with the final round of non-invasive works expected to continue until roughly mid-May. Meanwhile, site investigation works are scheduled to begin on the Ballymun/Finglas to City Centre scheme in mid-April.
Site investigation works have occurred across both corridors, with the works including the creation of slit trenches, boreholes, exploratory works and other assessments intended to provide the contractor with as much information as possible before construction begins to feed into the detailed design phase. These activities are a normal and essential part of a project of this scale. They help ensure that construction can take place safely, efficiently, and with minimal disruption as the programme progresses.
